Punnya, derived from the Sanskrit word punyam, means virtue obtained through acts of merit and kindness. To all of us here at Punnya, there is no higher virtue than imparting quality education fairly, thoroughly and joyfully. Our dedication to our children is matched only by our desire to watch them blossom and succeed. We are committed to providing a nurturing and stimulating environment where children can thrive emotionally, socially, and morally.

Punnya offers state-of-the-art education combined with the power of hands-on learning. Experiential Learning is the latest scientific discovery in the field of education. It moves away from traditional rote learning and empowers children to become active participants, learning from their observations and allowing them the freedom to explore their environment on their own terms.

In the realm of educational visionaries, one name resonates with everlasting impact: Seth Panna Lal Ji. Driven by an unwavering commitment to goodness and boundless acts of kindness, his very name is synonymous with the essence of PUNNYA – a profound Sanskrit term denoting virtuous deeds. His endeavours of bringing quality education to Dehradun led to the creation of Arya Inter College in 1947, a school that provided exceptional educational opportunities to children in the area.

From the embers of his name PANNA, we derived his very spirit- PUNNYA, so that he may always be a part of us and guide us in all we do.

To carry forth his legacy, the Mittal family formed the Arya Shiksha Vistar Samiti (ASVS) in order to continue philanthropic work on multiple projects. The family recognises the value of strengthening a child’s educational base. They understand that a wholesome education is the very root of a self-sufficient nation and thus, endeavoured to create an institution for the same. In 1972, the family established the Dayanand Kanya Vidhyalaya to empower the girl child.

Seth Panna Lal Ji, our founder’s beloved grandfather, left an indelible mark on our hearts and minds. We strive to honour his memory by bringing his vision to fruition, offering an education that is relevant, enriching, and impactful in today's context.

At the heart of our school's inception lies the deep-rooted values and unwavering commitment of the Mittal family to serve the community. Aditya Mittal, our founder was raised in an environment where he was taught to seek comfort in honourable service to society. Inheriting the role from his esteemed father Mr. Narendra Mittal, he has committed himself to the goals set by generations of his family: the noble cause of education, recognizing its pivotal role in shaping a prosperous nation.

Observing the educational landscape of Dehradun, he realized that Dehradun is primarily known for its excellence in secondary education however this excellence rarely transcends the boundaries of elementary education. Keeping his experience as a student of The Doon School as a benchmark, our founder’s aim was to ensure excellence right from the very beginning of a child’s education so that superior learning is made achievable from the absolute start. Motivated by a deep sense of responsibility and determination, he embarked on a journey to fill this void.

In his pursuit of delivering unmatched learning experiences, Aditya recognized the limitations of a conventional approach. Acknowledging the distinctive needs of young learners, he embarked on a mission to establish a sprawling campus in the heart of the city, ensuring easy accessibility for all. Realising that a great school must prioritise the holistic well-being of students, he emphasised the importance of nurturing their mental and physical health. Aditya’s vision extended beyond mere curricula, emphasising the significance of providing children with expansive, lush green spaces
that embrace nature. This visionary perspective laid the foundation of Punnya.

In an era where the importance of early childhood education is increasingly recognized, we are proud to be pioneers, ahead of our time. Guided by the principles of the National Education Policy, we intend to extend experiential learning right up to Grade 12, moored by academic excellence, giving children access to an atmosphere of space, tolerance, confidence and self-sufficiency as they move towards adulthood. Through the creation of Punnya and its focus on a comprehensive integrated approach, our founder aspires to prepare children for the challenges of the future and empower them to make positive contributions to society.

With a rich background in education management and leadership, Ruchika Bhasin brings years of expertise in fostering academic excellence, innovation, and student-centric learning. Holding a Master’s in Business Administration from Edith Cowan University, Australia, she combines strategic vision with a deep passion for experiential learning, ensuring that every child at Punnya receives a holistic and future-ready education.

Her leadership journey includes heading prestigious institutions, implementing cutting-edge educational practices, and guiding teams of educators toward excellence. Dedicated to empowering both students and teachers, she believes in creating an environment that nurtures curiosity, creativity, and character.
